Receiving the “UPON THIS ROCK” grant for the 2019-20 year has been a wonderful opportunity for our students here at St.Peter and Paul School. We have formed a collaboration with the Roycroft Museum in East Aurora and it will encompass all of our students this year.
We will start with grades 3-8 with a tour of the Roycroft Museum learning about the history of the Master Craftsman as well as experience the printing process. Our 8th grade will create a virtual reality tour so all of our younger students can appreciate the history of Hubbard and the Roycroft Inn and Museum.
We will be learning about the history of books and the craft of creating books from pre-K through 8th grade. Interdisciplinary projects will be created to utilize these creations within the ELA, Social Studies and Art subject area.
Tying in a master craftsman program of copper work and creating medallions for the students to treasure that can be used as a necklace or a finding on the leather bound journals for 7th and 8th grade. Our younger grades will be enjoying stamping on copper and understanding the actual history of the copper craft.
Our upper and middle school students will be taught how to make and design glass bowls for their own use.
This program has been designed to carry out the theme of medieval times throughout Catholic School Week and continue the program for this whole year in art as well as other subject and grade areas.
